World Environment Day is a global event celebrated each year on 5 June. It's a day when people from all walks of life come together to celebrate our environment and take action to protect it.

Coinciding with World Environment Day, Thromde Administration held stakeholders coordination meeting to reduce single use-plastic bags in Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde. The participants were from Royal Bhutan Police, BAFDA, RRCO, BCCI, Samdrup Jongkhar Initiative, and Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag. The meeting was coordinated by the Thromde Environment Section and was chaired by Dasho Thrompon. The discussion mainly focused on two strategies;

1. Reduction/prevention of import from the entry point

2. Discourage the import of plastic carry bags from the border towns over shopping.

To achieve the strategies, numerous alternatives and ideas were discussed.

Towards the afternoon, students and teachers of Samdrup Jongkhar Higher Secondary School carried out mass cleaning campaign. About 350 participants tooks part in cleaning the Thromde Areas.
