Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde installs CCTV cameras to curb crime and environmental offences

A total of 72 CCTV cameras have been installed across Samdrup Jongkhar and Dewathang towns to strengthen public safety and surveillance. The project involved upgrading and replacing the previous malfunction CCTV cameras, of the total, 61 cameras have been installed within Samdrup Jongkhar town, while 11 cameras at Dewathang (zero point till Dewathang Primary School)

The initiative is a joint effort between the Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde Administration and the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP). Besides helping deter criminal activities, the CCTV system will also assist in monitoring environmental offences such as illegal waste dumping and open defecation.

Prior to the official handover, a Tashi Tsepa ceremony was conducted as a gesture of goodwill and blessing for the successful operation of the system.

The CCTV system was officially handed over between the Thromde Administration and the RBP Samdrup Jongkhar Division. Implemented at a total cost of Nu. 5.154 million, the project was carried out under the supervision and technical guidance of the Surveillance Team from the RBP Headquarters in Thimphu.

The surveillance network covers strategic locations along the Bhutan India border and the core urban areas of Samdrup Jongkhar and Dewathang towns, contributing towards a safer and cleaner community.
